It's all about lord Ganesh and Ganesh chaturthi
The above lines are very powerful mantras and it is believed that chanting these mantras on a daily basis will please god Ganesha. I wanted to share few things which I learned about Ganesh chaturthi.
Mythological view
It is believed that god Ganesha visits earth every year on the occasion of his birthday, that's why people welcome him in the form of idols on the day of Ganesh chaturthi and worship him. He (in the form of idol) enjoys varieties of food items offered by his devotees for ten days and fulfill their wishes. On eleventh day when his idols are immersed in water, ganesha returns to Kailash parvath (home).
Historical view
During India's freedom struggle, in order to gather a huge crowd and unite people, leaders started procession carrying Ganesh idols. The idea got massive response from the people and played a major role in the freedom fight. Even today people follow this.
Ancient view
Ganesh chaturthi is celebrated during rainy season (August month). Rainwater flow to ocean washing the surface of the land and takes the fertile soil along. In order to stop this people during the ancient times followed the ritual of immersing the Ganesha's clay idols in the water resources, so that clay melts and settles down and absorb the water to the ground. It also safeguards the fertile soil which is essential to grow crops and protect the environment. But today people use idols made out of non eco friendly items.
People in recent times think that olden beliefs and rituals are superstitious. But we ignore the fact that there is scientific and logical reason behind them. Sometimes I wonder who is eco friendly? We who are well educated or Ancient people?
